Christie's Story

In 2014, when Christie was 24 years old, she was diagnosed with Lymphoma cancer. After 3 months of struggling to get approved by Medicaid, and also getting denied twice, she finally was able to be accepted for health insurance. While on her treatments, her insurance suddenly cut her off without any warning. She was devastated because she couldn’t afford the medications that would have costed her thousands of dollars out of her own pocket. She was without any form of medication for two months--making her worse than she ever was. While she was extremely sick during these two months, she had to fight with the insurance company just to get insured again. Christie, like many other cancer patients, has not only had to battle with cancer, but with the traumatic experiences of Step Therapy.
